Electron Microscopy Sample Preparation

Electron microscopy (EM) is a powerful imaging technique that allows for visualization of structures at the nanometer or even atomic scale. However, proper sample preparation is critical because electron beams interact strongly with matter, and biological or delicate materials can be easily damaged or distorted.

1. Types of Electron Microscopy

  • Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM): Electrons pass through thin specimens, providing detailed internal structural information.

  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM): Electrons scan the surface of specimens, producing 3D-like images of surface morphology.
